Born: 13 July 1849  Hobart Town, Tasmania, Australia.  Died: 15 April 1910  Launceston, Tasmania.
William Frederick Petterd published over 50 papers on geology and conchology. He was vice- president of the geology and minerals section of the Hobart meeting of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science in 1902.
