Born: 12 February 1870 Helensburgh, Dumbartonshire, Scotland. Died: 11 November 1954 Burradoo, New South Wales, Australia.

Horatio Scott Carslaw was Professor of Mathematics, University of Sydney 1903-35. He was interested in the theory of conduction of heat.

Career Highlights

Born Helensburgh, Scotland, 12 February 1870. Died Burradoo, New South Wales, 11 November 1954. Educated Universities of Glasgow (MA 1891), Cambridge (BA 1894, MA 1898, ScD 1908) and Göttingen (1896-97). Assistant lecturer in mathematics, University of Glasgow 1896-1903, Fellow, Emmanuel College, Cambridge 1899-1905, Professor of mathematics, University of Sydney 1903-35. He was a member of the first board of examiners established under A.C. Carmichael's University (Amendment) Act 1912 and was chief examiner of mathematics for the next 30 years.
