| Albert Alexander Le Souef was Secretary of the Zoological Gardens, Melbourne 1870-82 and Director 1882-1902. He arrived at Port Phillip in 1840 and worked on stations at Reedy Creek and Swan Hill until he purchased Nangatta cattle station near Twofold Bay, New South Wales in 1851. |

| Born Sandgate, Kent, England, 17 April 1828. Died Melbourne, 7 May 1902. Educated Moravian Mission School, Neuwied, Germany and privately. Arrived Australia 1840. Overseer, Reed Lake, Quambatook and Swan Hill stations from 1845; ran sheep and cattle in the north-east of Victoria and on Seven Creeks and Euroa stations and overlanded stock to the Riverina and Melbourne; secretary, zoological gardens (Zoological and Acclimatisation Society), Royal Park, Melbourne 1870-81, director 1882-1902. Usher of the Black Rod, Legislative Council of Victoria 1863-93; Member, ANZAAS from 1888; corresponding member, Zoological Society, London. | ||
