Campbell, Alfred Walter (1868 - 1937)

Born: 18 January 1868  Cunningham Plains, New South Wales, Australia.  Died: 4 November 1937  Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Alfred Walter Campbell had a specialist medical practice in Sydney in neurology and mental diseases. He published numerous papers, particularly on the brain, poliomyelitis and 'Australian disease', later known as Murray Valley encephalitis.

Career Highlights
Born Murrumburrah, New South Wales, 18 January 1868. Died Sydney, 4 November 1937. Educated University of Edinburgh (MB, ChM 1889; MD 1892). Medical officer and director of pathology, Rainhill County Mental Hospital near Liverpool, England 1892-1905; private practice, Sydney, as a specialist in neurology and mental diseases 1905- ; honorary consultant, Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children and the Coast (Prince Henry) Hospital; 2nd Australian General Hospital, Cairo 1914-15; Military Hospital, Randwick 1916-18; consultant, Department of Repatriation after the war.
