(Sir) Alexander Jarvie Hood was a Scottish-born medical practitioner who served the people of New South Wales for over thirty years. He held many posts, often consecutive, during this time including chief medical officer for City Mutual Life Assurance Society (1889-1934), honorary medical officer at Sydney Hospital from 1890 and advisor to the New South Wales Government from 1893. Hood was knighted in 1921 for his honorary war service which included stints with the Army Medical Corps (1890-1904c) and the New South Wales Scottish Rifles (1904-1909) and senior consultant physician at the Military Hospital, Randwick from 1915. |
