Born: 1804  Dunkeld, Scotland.  Died: 1849  Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
John Arthur was Melbourne's first botanical gardener. He arrived in Port Phillip in the first Scottish migrant barque, the "David Clark", in 1839.

Born Dunkeld, Scotland, 1804. Died Melbourne, January 1849. Trained as a landscapre gardener in Scotland; arrived Melbourne 1839; farming, Heidelberg district; first superintendent, Melbourne Botanic Gardens 1846-49.
