Braine, Arthur Belgrave (1854 - 1945)

Born: 9 September 1854  England.  Died: 6 October 1945  Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Arthur Belgrave Braine was a Victorian schoolteacher and amateur orchidologist. In 1922 Prasophyllum Brainei, the Green Leek Orchid, was named after him.

Career Highlights
Born England, 9 September 1854. Died Melbourne, 6 October 1945. Coffee planter, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) for many years; school teacher in various parts of Victoria, including Cravensville (near Tallangatta); first person to undertake an orchid survey of north east Victoria, publishing a series of 23 articles on "In Quest of Orchids" in "The Federal Standard", Chiltern, Victoria, 1917-18.
