George Davenport Osborne taught geology at the University of Sydney from 1921 to 1955, becoming a reader in 1949. He wrote "Structural Evolution of the Hunter-Manning-Myall Province" in 1950. |

Born 6 August 1899. Died 5 October 1955. Educated Universities of Sydney (BSc 1921, DSc 1929) and Cambridge PhD 1939). After graduation he held various research and junior teaching posts at the University of Sydney before gaining tenured appointment as lecturer and demonstrator 1926-45, senior lecturer 1945-49, reader 1949-55. Worked at the Sedgwick Museum, Cambridge 1930-31and at Emmanuel College, Cambridge 1938-39. Taught evening classes at Sydney Technical College from 1933. President, Royal Society of New South Wales 1944, President, Linnean Society of New South Wales 1947, President, Sydney University Union 1933-34. |
