Leo George Joseph is a parrot expert from South Australia. After working in Uruguay and travelling in South America for some time he moved to the Academy of Sciences in Philadelphia, where much of John Gould's collection of Australian birds is housed. There he is Curator and Chair of Ornithology. |

Born Adelaide, 22 October 1958. Educated Universities of Adelaide (BSc (hons) 1981) and Queensland (PhD 1994). Field conservation research on various endangered Australian birds 1979, 1980, 1983-84, 1987-88; sometime scientific editor and technical assistant; travel in South America 1985-87; visiting Professor in Ornithology and Evolution, Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad de la Republica, Montevideo, Uruguay 1994-97; Assistant Curator, Department of Ornithology, Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia May 1997-present, Acting Chair December 1997 - September 1999, Chair since 2001. Australian Member, Parrot Specialist Group, International Council for Bird Preservation, September 1986 - present. Editor, South Australian Ornithologist, April 1980 - December 1988; Editor, RAOU Monographs, December 1983 - September 1988. |
