Born: 15 January 1932  Ilford, Essex, England
John Stewart Pate was Professor and Head of the Department of Botany, University of Western Australia from 1973 to about 2000. He is interested in the functioning of plants in testing environments.

Career Highlights
Born Ilford, Essex, England, 15 January 1932. Educated Queen's University, Belfast (BSc (hons) 1953, MSc 1954, PhD 1956, DSc 1965). Assistant Lecturer, Queen's University 1954-56; Lecturer in Botany, University of Sydney 1957-60; Lecturer in Botany, Queen's University 1960-65; Reader in Botany 1965-70, Personal Chair of Plant Physiology 1970-73; Professor and Head of Department of Botany, University of Western Australia 1973-ca 2000, Emeritus Professor from ca 2000. Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1980; Fellow, Royal Society 1985.
