Born Ilford, Essex, England, 15 January 1932. Educated Queen's University, Belfast (BSc (hons) 1953, MSc 1954, PhD 1956, DSc 1965). Assistant Lecturer, Queen's University 1954-56; Lecturer in Botany, University of Sydney 1957-60; Lecturer in Botany, Queen's University 1960-65; Reader in Botany 1965-70, Personal Chair of Plant Physiology 1970-73; Professor and Head of Department of Botany, University of Western Australia 1973-ca 2000, Emeritus Professor from ca 2000. Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1980; Fellow, Royal Society 1985. |
