Reginald D. Ryan worked for CSIRO Division of Radiophysics in the 1950s. In 1953 he doubled CSIR Mk 1's (later CSIRAC) mercury delay line storage to 768 words. He analysed the programmes for a number of computations performed by the computer, suggesting that it would be possible to build a flexible, reliable computer requiring only a relatively small amount of rapid-access erasable store, and a larger amount of rapid-access non-erasable store, in which all the interpretation routines, function blocks, and so on could be held. |
