McEwan, Angus David (1937 - )

Born: 20 July 1937  United Kingdom
Angus David McEwan was Chief, CSIRO Division of Oceanography from 1981 until about 1995. He then moved to the Bureau of Meteorology as Senior Science Advisor (Oceanography). His interest is in geophysical fluid dynamics, particularly the processes of the atmosphere and ocean such as fronts, waves, convection, stratified and rotating flows, and the quasi-biennial oscillation.

Research Scientist, Aeronautical Research Laboratories, Melbourne 1961-62; Queen Elizabeth Fellowship 1969-71; Leader, Dynamics Section, CSIRO Division of Atmospheric Physics 1971-81; Rossby Fellow, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, USA 1975; Chief, CSIRO Division of Oceanography 1981-ca 1995; Senior Science Advisor (Oceanography), Bureau of Meteorology, Hobart ca 1995-date. Fellow, Australian Academy of Science 1982; Fellow, Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering 1994. Chairman, IOC/ SCOR (International Oceanographic Commission of Unesco Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research) Committee on Climatic Changes and the Ocean 1987-90.
