Valerie (Val) Alder worked as a research scientist in the UK, having gained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in physics from Imperial College London. She later worked as a high school physics and maths teacher. She undertook a PhD in Auditory Biophysics at the University of Western Australia. Moving to the field of medical research, Alder investigated vascular diseases of the eye. She has published extensively in this area. Alder was a committee member (and often Chair) of over five National Health and Medical Research Council committees and member or convener of tens of other university, research and support committees. |
