Born: 6 February 1927 Rupanyup, Victoria, Australia

(Dame) Leila Valerie Asche worked in the field of microbiology for over forty years. Her work was recognised by the Australian Society for Microbiology in 1991 with a Distinguished Service Award. In 2001 she was appointed Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for service to science, particularly in the field of microbiology, and for service to the community of the Northern Territory.
