Donald Alexander Titchen was reader in veterinary physiology at the Universites of Melbourne and Sydney. He was appointed Emeritus Professor by the University of Sydney in 1990. |

Once Donald Alexander Titchen completed his Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) from the University of Sydney he was employed as a house surgeon and research officer with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). A few years later in 1948, he set off to London to continue his training. As a recipient of a scholarship from the Veterinary Education Trust of Britain, he was able to enroll in a Master of Arts in physiology and pharmacology at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He stayed on to complete his PhD and was appointed lecturer in veterinary physiology at the College in 1957. After becoming a Fellow of Emmanuel College, Titchen was granted a permanent lectureship at the University of Cambridge in 1960. Three years later Donald Titchen moved to New Zealand to become foundation Professor of Veterinary Biology, then Anatomy and Physiology at Massey University. In 1968 he was appointed reader in veterinary physiology at the University of Melbourne and remained there for 10 years. During this time he completed his Masters of Veterinary Science. Titchen’s final move was back to the University of Sydney, where he was appointed reader and then Professor and Emeritus Professor. In 1982 the University of Cambridge awarded him a Doctorate of Science. Donald Titchen retired in 1989, ending a prestigious career in veterinary science. Chronology
