Bruce Konrad Armstrong is a leader in cancer research and management and is an authority on the causes and prevention of skin cancer and melanoma. He has also made important contributions towards the understanding of the causes and control of other cancers, high blood pressure and heart disease. To date, Armstrong has written close to 400 scientific publications and has presented his groups’ findings at numerous national and international conferences and institutes. Presently he is employed as Professor of Public Health and Head of the School of Public Health at the University of Sydney, Honorary Epidemiologist with the Cancer Council New South Wales, Conjoint Professor of the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Newcastle, Honorary Consultant in Clinical Epidemiology at the Sydney Cancer Centre, and Adjunct Professor at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health at the Australian National University. Despite this massive workload, Armstrong still finds time to be an active member, and often office bearer, of a multitude of scientific, medical and legislative organizations and societies. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and of the Australasian Faculty of Publich Health Medicine (FAFPHM). He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for services to medicine through research in cancer epidemiology. |
