Ian Ellery McCarthy was Professor of Physics at Flinders University in South Australia for nearly thirty years (1968-1996). Prior to this he held Professorships at two universities in the United States of America. Throughout his career McCarthy worked in several distinct areas of theoretical physics. He was elected to the Australian Academy of Science in 1982 and was also a Fellow of the American Physical Society(FAPS) and the Australian Institute of Physics (FAIP). Ian McCarthy presented invited papers at a number of international conferences and was (co)-author of numerous peer-reviewed publications. |
