Thomas Heron Steel was a thoracic specialist who helped to almost totally eradicate tuberculosis from Victoria. After returning from war service, he joined the Alfred Hospital in 1946 retiring in 1983. Steel greatly improved the doctor training and patient treatment at the hospital where he was appointed to the board of management (1975) and Vice-President of the board of directors. In 1956 he was appointed director of the Melbourne Medical Postgraduate Committee, retiring in 1969. Steel also worked as a Medical Officer for the AMP Society until 1985 |
