John Clarke

With regret we announce the sudden death on 5 January 1995 of John Russell Clarke, a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. He had been a most able and dedicated lecturer in chemistry for many years at the Gordon Institute of Technology and subsequently Deakin University. Following his retirement in 1979 John completed an MA in the History and Philosophy of Science Department at the University of Melbourne. His lifelong interest in the history of chemistry led him to play an active role on the RACI History and Archives Committee from its inception in 1986 right up to his untimely death. A full biographical memoir will appear in Chemistry in Australia later this year.
