Australian Mining History Association
The Australian Mining History Association has recently been established. Its major objects are: to promote and coordinate national activities and publication
of mining history; to encourage identification and preservation
of records, sites, relics and material relevant to Australian
mining; to act as a focus for correspondence between scholars
within Australia and overseas relating to mining history; to disseminate
information of interest to members through a newsletter/and or
journal.
The Association shared a successful programme with the Australian Historical Association at James Cook University in July, with 14 presentations being made in the mining history sessions. The Mining History Association intends to conduct a conference in 1996 at a location yet to be determined. The Association is currently establishing contacts with other mining history and mining conservation groups throughout the world, and has elected a committee with Patrick Bertola, Curtin University, as President, and Mel Davies, University of W.A., as Secretary.
Australian Prospectors & Miners Hall of Fame
The research committee of the Association wishes to gather information on the history of mining and prospecting in Australia. They would like to receive details of research topics in mining and of any books or publications written on the subject. To help them build up their research database contact: Norma Latchford, Research Sub-Committee, Australian Prospectors and Miners Hall of Fame, PBKB 2001, Kalgoorlie, WA 6430.
Annual Membership fees for the Australian Mining History Association are $20 for 'waged' members, $5 for 'unwaged' and $50 for Institutions. The Secretary/Treasurer is Mel Davies,
Department of Economics, University of Western Australia, Nedlands
6907, WA. His email is mdavies@ecel.uwa.edu.au.
