Born: 16 August 1813 Northwich, Cheshire, England. Died: 5 November 1889 Beaumont, South Australia, Australia. | ||
Peter Egerton Warburton was the South Australian Commissioner of Police from 1853 -1867. He was also an avid explorer who travelled through much of central and South Australia. In 1872 Warburton lead a party which became the first to cross the continent from the centre to the west. He was awarded the patron's medal of the Royal Geographical Society, London and was appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG). |
